International Association Of Fireplace & Chimney Inspectors

IAFCI Directive

IAFCI Directive Dated 2/17/2008

RE: IAFCI Directive

Directive:
It is the position of the IAFCI Board of Directors that this Association was formed to facilitate education and promote professionalism within the hearth, fireplace, and chimney inspection community. It is not the intent of this Association to develop or write educational material. This Association will be a conduit and organizer of educational classes, events, and workshops to develop the Professional Inspector and related Associates. This Organization will also act as a liaison between the Inspectors, Manufacturer’s, and Suppliers. The IAFCI intends to work closely with fire investigators and insurance adjusters for a well-rounded educational experience. The IAFCI will utilize and assist in the application of recognized standards, listings, and codes for all hearth products intended for repair, replacement, or new installation. This directive shall be carried out in an unbiased method, which represents the best interest of the consumer, the Industry, the Association, and its members.

Commentary:

The intent of this Association is to embrace the existing education and assist in the delivery of this vital aspect of the inspection process. The IAFCI Board of Directors will work with recognized educators to ensure there is adequate coverage of important topics based upon actual field conditions, incidents, and investigations. The board of Directors considers the development of new programs as a conflict and does not want to drain existing resources. If current educational programs, organizations, or their instructors deviate from standards, listings, and codes they may not be recognized by the IAFCI Education Committee and may not qualify for CEU’s or endorsement.

The following organizations and their corresponding educational training are some of the recognized educational resources in the hearth industry. This list will be reviewed as new work product is produced and the direction of our industry varies.
